5 T. cornstarch
¼ t. salt
1 c. orange juice
1/3 c. lemon juice
4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
1 ½ t. grated lemon peel
In small saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually stir in juices and ¾ cup water. Bring to boil for 1 minute. Stir a little of the hot mixture into the egg yolks then add to mixture in saucepan. Cook just to boiling, stirring. Remove from heat. Add lemon peel. Cool completely before spreading between cake layers.
Frosting:
¾ c. shortening
¼ c. butter or margarine, softened
1 lb. confectioner’s sugar
¼ c. milk
½ t. vanilla
